This is a fun collage sketch made of scraps of linoleum block and woodblock prints and colored paper.  Inspired largely by Russian Constructivist artists Varvara Stepanova and Alexander Rodchenko.

 

This is a print collage utilizing linoleum block and spray paint stenciled prints.  Two bears sit on the outskirts of a city, appearing to be without a home and sitting with their only possession- a potted plant.  The clocks on their faces reference the passage of time which seems to be winding infinitely along a circular axis of forever and yet taking place at no time in particular.  Time is static though their predicament is very present.  This print was made after a round of many housing evictions when many of my friends and myself were passing through several unstable housing situations, partly due to the housing market becoming more and more inflated.  I wanted to reference the idea of musical chairs, where once the song starts, all of us have to get up and move, and when the music stops, there is one less chair, or one less house upon which for us to sit. 2004/2005.

This is a multi media print collage. There is an edition of a couple dozen of these collages.  It is a combination of woodcut, linoleum block, spray paint stencil, with hand stamps.  The slogan “It’s Time For Togetherness” was written by Peter Glantz and Becky Stark.

 

This an eerie  collage.  A silver foxy cat slinks through the brush under a silvery blue moon. The night is the time for pranksters and tricksters to take over the night.

This print is inspired by the phenomenon of sightings of “winged cats”.  The most common logical reason humans site for believing a cat has wings is due to a long haired cat developing matted fur along either side of their body in a wing like appearance.  Henry David Thoreau is the first person to have recorded a winged cat sighting.  Catwings is also the name of a book about a set of kittens who grow wings and fly from their place of birth into the country.  It’s written by Ursula K. Le Guin, who is one of my favorite science fiction and fantasy authors.  In this print, a winged cat is fleeing both towards and away from her past and future.  She rests here on a rocky alcove with the waves rushing below her.

Another exploration of the idea of winged cats, and what sorts of adventures cats would have were they to travel around in the sky.

One anthropomorphic mouse sends good wishes to his travelling friend.  Perhaps a short nod to the Aesop fable of the city mouse and the country mouse.
